Where healing echoes

through generations.

My why.

Embracing Echoes Counseling was born from a desire to honor my ancestral heritage, holding mind, body, spirit, and culture at the center of healing.

My Native name, Baswewesinok, gifted in ceremony, roughly translates to the echoes of ice breaking. My father’s name (Miikwamagaaboo) means he who stands on ice. I reflect on these images and see them as a symbol of the ripple effect created when generational cycles and trauma are broken.

As an Ojibwe Anishinaabe woman of mixed ancestry, I believe healing is not isolated. It is collective. In my culture, we understand the choices we make affect seven generations before and after us. Healing, then, is not only for ourselves, but for those who could not heal and those yet to come. It reminds us that we are all deeply connected.

I recognize that every person brings their own unique cultural background, lived experience, and sense of identity into therapy. Healing involves honoring the whole person, exploring all parts of yourself, and understanding how these elements connect to your path of growth. Together, we create a space where your experiences are respected, your identity is held, and your healing can ripple outward.

Mission

To provide trauma informed, culturally attuned psychotherapy that honors mind, body, spirit, and ancestral context supporting adults in healing wounds that echo across generations and reclaiming agency, connection, and wholeness.

Vision

A world where healing is understood as relational and cyclical, where individuals feel supported not only as isolated selves but as part of a larger lineage past, present and future.

Jessica Slager, LCPC

Welcome! I am a trauma therapist who provides virtual individual counseling services to adults 18+ in the state of Illinois. (Groups coming soon!)

As a therapist, I am deeply committed to understanding the systems—family, society, and culture—that shape mental health and influence the way we move through the world. I believe our environment plays a huge role in forming our worldview and our relationships. In my work, I strive to create a space that centers safety, collaboration, and curiosity, allowing room for growth and meaningful change.

Themes I enjoy working with

How can we get to the real you underneath the armor you’ve built to keep you safe?

Embodiment

Let’s lean into difficult emotions and learn what you need.

Community

It’s okay to soften and ask for help. You don’t have to carry this alone.
